Grandma Kate, was born in Southampton in the early 1900’s and by the age of 15 was working for the local gentry as a scullery maid. It was here she learnt to cook good food for her employers family and later for her own 11 children and hungry husband Sam who worked at Southampton Docks. As a family they were poor, so homegrown produce, homemade pastry and locally produced food was all they could afford, but her young family ate well even through the war years between 1940/44 and throughout rationing.

Kates long lasting legacy was her love of cooking and she passed her skills and knowledge to her 5 daughters (the sons didn't really cook in those days!)and they all became accomplished cooks passing their skills to the next generation and the next. Her youngest 2 daughters are still alive, still cooking and passing down the recipes in order for chefs produce these meals for you. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
